Julia Pallone’s work in the exhibition will be an installation in a small courtyard hidden behind a metal gate on Dominic Street.

This empty, uninhabited space, which can be seen only through a little opening on the gate, acts as a gap in the middle of the surrounding buildings. Pallone’s installation will involve little silhouette drawings or small models of Cork’s bridges which float in the air tied to helium air balloons.

While bridges float, they will slightly move and start to look like dream objects. They will become the symbol of a fragile link... This also coincides with the aim of the exhibition to reflect on the connection and the disparity between Shandon area and the city center, which are separated by the river Lee.

The work is a call for thinking on the role of bridges, both on a physical level in the daily life of Corkonians, as well as metaphorically as ties or connections between different places, different people, times or ideas in general.
